INTRODUCTIONI

 

Faculty  of  Computer Science and Information Technology  (FSKTM) in Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) was newly established on 1 Mei 2004. FSKTM was upgraded from the Department of Information Technology. This faculty plays the role to produce experts in information technology and to fulfill the needs of local and industry abroad. FSKTM is heading by a Dean, Deputy Dean and two department heads. This faculty consists of 4 departments, namely, Multimedia Department, Software Engineering Department, Web Technology Department and Information Security Department. These departments are supporting by academic staff who are experienced, with vision, dynamic and progressive. Technical and support staff who are innovative, efficient and well-trained are also there to assist the departments.

To explore Information Communication Technology for the development of nation.

 

Mission

To produce ICT graduates who are creative, innovative, competent and responsible through academic program and qualified staff in conjunction with the mission of the university. 

Objective

1. To produce graduates who are strong in information technology practically and able to fulfill the current industry need.
2. To pioneer in research and consultation for multimedia and information technology in this region.
3. To increase the skill and knowledge in ICT to the society.
4. To expand software development activities, entrepreneurship and consultation in information technology. 

Program offers

FSKTM offers study program at the level of Diploma, Bachelor Degree in information technology, Master in Information Technology (By Research) and Doctor of Philosophy in Information Technology in the following specialized fields: 

Software Engineering
 

Software Engineering exposes the students to in-depth knowledge with work method and process flow in software development. The students are taught with techniques in analyzing the need and consumer specification, design, development and to test software system. 

Information System
 

Information System focuses in design and system development based on computer and mastering database design technique and information system. It also involves details in project management, information system development, business data processing and information system management. 

Network Technology
 

Networking focuses in network technology especially in data communication and computer networking, network system operation, network safety, and network programming. It enables the students to develop and manage network system. 

Multimedia and Graphic Technology
 

Multimedia and graphic technology focuses in multimedia application and technology such as graphic programming, multimedia design, 2D and 3D animation, audio and video editing. In addition, it emphasize on the creative thinking aspect and being innovative in multimedia. 

The research fields for Master and PhD programs are Knowledge and Data Engineering, Management Information System, Knowledge Management, E-biz and E-trading. 

 

Laboratory Facility

 

Software Engineering Lab

This lab is equipped with two Sun Enterprise 250 servers that are used with the latest software to develop system and database such as Rotational Rose, Visual Studio. 

Software Development Lab

This lab is prepared to fulfill the need of Initiative Sun Academic Program. It has the Sun Fire 280R technology server and 1500 Sun Blade Work Station and Sun Developer software to train the students with job market need. 

Information System Lab

This is lab is equipped with latest technology especially for the use of information system subject and expert system. The facility includes Visual Prolog 6.0, ERP, SAS Minor Enterprise. 

Network Technology Lab

This lab is equipped with the latest hardware for networking includes the server (router, switcher, wireless gadget, and broadband access) to prepare the students with competency in the field of computer network. 

Computer Troubleshooting Technology Lab

This lab is equipped with latest equipment for repair activities and maintenance system for computer and computer network installation. 

Multimedia and Graphic Technology Lab

This lab is well equipped with facility to support graphic programming and multimedia design includes 3D multimedia graphic design. 

3D Animation & Audio Video Studio

This lab is equipped with iMac G4 Apple Computer with high level of technology in producing and editing 3D animation. Non-Linear Editing and audio studio are available for production of audio and video. 

Staff Research Lab

The faculty has special labs for staff to conduct research work. This lab is equipped with latest technology and software that enables various type of research. 

Students Research Lab

A research lab is for students to work on undergraduate project. Many latest technology and software are available in this lab.

Software Engineering
 

Software engineer, programmer, system analyst, system design, system consultant, Database administration and system development.

 

Information System
 

Information System officer, system administrator, program analyst, information system development and e-trading.

 

Networking
 

Network administrator, network manager, network consultant, network engineer, web administrator, network analyst, and executive support.

 

Multimedia and Graphic Technology
 

Multimedia programmer, illustrator design, content design, script writer, storyboard, graphic programmer, graphic artist, audio and video editing, and 2D and 3D animator.
